Furry Friends Need Fun Too! Visit Pet Friendly Hotel in Albuquerque

Many of us are so attached to our furry friends these days that we want to take them on trips and vacations with us.  It can be difficult to find a comfortable place for them and for us to rest, relax and recharge.  The Mauger Estate B&B is the best pet friendly hotel in Albuquerque; a most cozy retreat for you and your dog.  Our dog friendly room has a private entrance, fully fenced private side yard, room with dog door, private bathroom, wi-fi, cable TV, refrigerator, coffee pot, and includes full breakfast and evening refreshments.  There are dog bowls, beds and treats for your furry friend, and a nice walking neighborhood with a park 5 blocks down the street.  An off leash dog park is only 1 mile away, and several restaurants and shops are dog friendly in our neighborhoods.

We also have a dog friendly townhouse which is truly a home away from home with a full kitchen, full living area, washer/dryer, and small fenced patio.  We welcome longer term stays in the townhouse, and it also has all of the necessary amenities (wi-fi, cable TV, parking) to make your stay relaxing and convenient.

Albuquerque has become a very dog friendly city with many shop owners and restaurants welcoming dogs, and several off leash dog parks are scattered throughout the city.  Some of our close by favorite restaurants are:  Slate Street Café (patio), Flying Star (“Petio”), Church Street Café (patio), O’Neills Pub (patio), and Kelly’s Brew Pub (patio).  Strolling through Old Town and Nob Hill are popular venues with your best friend on a leash.  In the summer, we have the Downtown Grower’s Market at Robinson Park, and most hiking trails in the foothills and the Petroglyph National Monument trails are all dog friendly as well.

Dog friendly lodging exists, many hotels are “dog friendly” but they don’t offer the same comfort and amenities.  Many times they are simply a smoking room that was converted to a dog room and there is no grass, yard or play area.

You will find that the Mauger Estate B&B is your best go-to dog friendly lodging option in Albuquerque.

Albuquerque Lodging at its Best

Many business travelers and tourists say to us “I’ve never stayed at a B&B before, and this is so much better than a hotel!”  While it really is so true, many travelers still don’t realize that in terms of choices in Albuquerque lodging, B&B’s really are the best choice, and the Mauger Estate is the place to stay!

I would like to highlight three of the top reasons so many people switch from staying at hotels to B&B’s:
  • Cleanliness is a concern for everyone. We have all stepped into a hotel room and noticed the bathroom isn’t as clean as we expected, or the carpet makes us want to never take off our shoes, or worst of all, the sheets are not clean.  At the Mauger Estate, attention to cleanliness is our hallmark, and we take pride in putting people at ease.

  • Comfort is what makes us sleep better at night, and feel at home when we are traveling.  B&B’s are much more comfortable and inviting than hotels.  There are no elevator doors opening closing, ringing, doors banging at all hours of the night, children running up and down the halls, or drunk people cackling at 2am.  At the Mauger Estate, guests tell us daily how “quiet” the house and the neighborhood are, and they often ask if there is anyone else staying with us because they didn’t hear anything.  As you walk through the house, you will feel as though you are at home, with hot tea available anytime, cookies, muffins or other treats available, quiet sitting areas, and the ability to come and go as you please make our guests feel most comfortable.

  • Homemade breakfast creates an amazing aroma for you to wake up to, and our breakfasts are filled with homemade goodness, delectable flavors and love.  We make our own muffins, sweet breads, quiches, soufflés, frittatas, granola and our chocolate chip cookies are the highlight of many guest reviews.  If you have a tight schedule and can’t make our usual breakfast time, we offer breakfast to go so that you can have breakfast in your room or take it with you.  If our guests let us know, we accommodate their dietary restrictions, and make sure their breakfast is as delicious as everyone else’s.

B&B proprietors are in the business to please people, make them feel at home, welcome and exceptionally satisfied.  It is often evident that hotels treat all guests the same, and that all guests are simply adding to their daily revenue, rather than making our day by appreciating the details and specialized treatment that guests receive at a B&B.

So, make the switch!  Book your next stay at the Mauger Estate, we look forward to meeting you and making your Albuquerque lodging experience delightful!

Albuquerque's Best - The Mauger Estate B&B

While we usually bring you great information about the city, or fabulous recipes, or outstanding accommodations and service, today we bring you an historic recap of one of the city's finest bed and breakfasts.  The Mauger Estate B&B is centrally located in the heart of the city, and has a rich history.  This property is on the city's historic walking tour:

http://www.visitalbuquerque.org/things-to-do/tours-sightseeing/walking/plaza-to-plaza/ .  A rare and exceptional pet friendly bed and breakfast, with one dog friendly room in the main house and two dog friendly townhouses, dogs and their owners love our delightful accommodations and amenities.

The story of the Mauger Estate history is enchanting and makes this Albuquerque B&B a great find.

Maude Talbot, the daughter of a local tavern owner and wholesale liquor distributor, ordered the residence constructed in 1897 at a cost of $1,600. Maude soon returned to her native New York after selling the home to William E. Mauger and his wife, Brittania. The Maugers’, a prominent Boston family, purchased the property in 1907 for $4,350. In 1912 they bought the lot to the west and added the two-story sleeping porch.

W.E. Mauger owned the Raabe & Mauger Hardware store on 1st Street, but his primary business was buying raw wool from the Indians and shipping it back to Boston for resale. The Wool Room, now a gracious bedroom on the B&B's second floor, was originally an office for the wool business records.

W.E. Mauger died in April of 1923 and Brittania Mauger continued to live at the Estate until 1932. Mrs. Mauger then moved to a smaller house on Maple Street where she died in 1970 at the age of 102.  The residence was sold after the Mauger’s passed, and was poorly maintained for many years.  It was almost condemned when it was bought by Richard and Utta Carleno and beautifully restored in the early 1980’s.

The Mauger Estate B&B is a classic example of Queen Anne style architecture. It has been brilliantly restored with careful attention to detail, preserving many of the original features including etched glass and finely refinished woodwork. The inn features a parlor/sitting room, a beautiful indoor-outdoor dining room, stunning suites and cozy bedrooms (including one with a special doggy door and private yard), and a sunny breakfast room in what was once the home's sleeping porch.

The Estate was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985.  Come see us soon and experience why so many people return to this beautiful historic bed and breakfast, where sleep is delicious!
